Looking for a heater? In this article you will find how to choose the perfect type of heater for your home according to your needs.
Water heaters, also known as hot water tanks, are thermodynamic devices that use different methods, energies and / or fuels to raise the temperature of the water.
In all homes we have water heaters to have hot water at the time of activities that involve the use of water, such as showering, washing dishes ...
There are different methods to heat water, so we must know them and choose the most suitable for our home.
What is the best option to have hot water at home: heater or thermos?
The answer is easy, both options are good, it only depends on the use you are going to give it.
We explain the differences, advantages and disadvantages between heater and thermos so that you can choose which is the best option for your home:
• Heater:
First of all, the gas heater is cheaper than electricity, therefore there is more savings. It allows unlimited hot water, it is a great advantage since we have hot water avoiding running out in the middle of the bathroom. Unlike the thermos, the heater allows that, when we turn on the water, hot water immediately comes out and turns off when we stop using it. The heater is recommended for homes with more than three people and a continuous use of hot water. The disadvantage of the gas heater is that it requires prior installation by a certified technician.
• Thermos:
It is the best option for small consumptions, homes for 2-3 people or second homes. The thermos offers great advantages: the water comes out hot as soon as you open the tap and at a constant temperature. It is easier to install than the heater, does not require gas installation and allows us to place it where it best suits us at home. The main drawback is that if the stored hot water runs out, you have to wait for it to reheat. Another disadvantage compared to the heater is the higher energy consumption produced by the electric boiler.
The following factors must be taken into account in order to choose which is the best system for our home:
1. Identify the type of fuel in the home. We must have a gas installation and know the type of fuel that the installation supplies (natural gas or butane / propane gas). If we do not have this type of installation, we need a water heater or electric accumulator, since the heaters only use gas.
2. How many people live at home? You must take into account the consumption of hot water you need to guarantee an adequate supply to the different needs. It is also important to be clear if you will need hot water in more than one place at the same time since, the more appliances that use hot water, the more capacity the heater should have.
3. Locate where the heater is to be installed.
4. Assess the advantages and disadvantages of each type of heater to suit your needs.
There are three types of gas heater fuel, depending on the characteristics of the home, you will have to choose between natural gas, butane gas or propane gas.
We explain which one to choose:
-Natural gas:
It is the most used for private homes as it offers several advantages over other types of fuel. Its main advantage is the price, it has the cheapest price per m3. The supply is always constant, that is, it will not be finished at the most inopportune moment. Security, the installation is safer and more robust, since most are outdoors and with copper pipes. And for last outstanding advantage, the space, hardly occupies space of installation and, therefore, it is possible to take better advantage of the distribution of the home.
-Butane gas:
Butane gas heaters have the ability to heat water instantly. It is the most useful if you are not going to make excessive use, such as in a second home. The bottle is cheaper than the propane one, although its performance is lower. Another characteristic is its ease of supply, it is found in bottling format and in a greater number of establishments. The downside is that butane is limited, that is, when you run out you will not have more hot water until you replace the bottle.
-Propane gas:
It is the most recommended for continuous use in large installations such as, for example: offices, workshops or factories, due to its great power to heat water. The capacity and performance is much higher than the previous fuel. It can withstand extreme temperatures without freezing, therefore it is ideal for outdoor installations.
• Heating the water with gas is done in a timely manner, and that implies a decrease in energy consumption. Therefore, thanks to its energy efficiency, it is a device that respects the environment.
• It can be adapted to any space since there are different models and sizes.
• It is easy to install and maintain.
• In the event of a breakdown, the repair is very economical.
What is the digital thermostat and what is it for?
The thermostat is a device that allows you to regulate the temperature of the hot water tank. Once the desired temperature is reached, cut the current to the resistor. If the temperature of the tank decreases because the hot water has been used up or due to natural cooling, the thermostat will start the resistance until the water is hot. It is essential to enjoy comfort, savings and security at home.
Some models include WIFI connectivity that allows the heater to be controlled remotely from the Smartphone. With the possibility of programming automatic ignition to achieve the desired temperature at the programmed time. It can be activated or deactivated remotely and create on / off schedules. Therefore, with a WIFI connection model it allows you greater comfort and convenience.
