You will need to empty the electric water heater if you want to uninstall it but also on other occasions, for example, when you are not going to use your electric water heater for a long time, in these cases the ideal is to empty it to avoid possible damage to the device. In Rehabilitaweb we bring you the steps of how to empty an electric water heater.

How to empty an electric water heater

If we want to uninstall or change an electric water heater, the first thing to do is empty the water heater that we have installed. This will allow us to move it more easily and be able to unpin it from the wall.

There is a belief that closing the water tap and opening some of the taps until the stored water is exhausted is enough to empty the water thermos, this action is only recommended if you do not want to de-install it.

If, on the other hand, you want to uninstall an electric water heater, we bring you the following tricks. After this post you will know how to empty an electric water heater without complications and not fill your house with water.

You must take special care since, since it is equipment that handles electricity and water, the alteration of any of its components could end in a domestic accident.

Steps to empty an electric water heater:

Step 1: The first thing you have to do is disconnect the thermos from the power, plug or power source. Skipping this step can be life threatening since it involves running water.

We recommend that you spend a few minutes with the electric water heater disconnected from the power source before starting the process and make sure that there is no longer any possibility of receiving an electric shock.

Step 2: Close the water tap of the thermos itself or of the house and open one or two hot water taps in the house. Leave them open for a while.

Step 3: Disconnect the cold water inlet hose to the thermos. First we loosen the end of the hose that connects to the water stopcock and then the one that connects to the electric water heater.

At this point we must have a couple of buckets prepared under the water connections to collect the water that will come out little by little.

Step 4: To improve the water output, we must loosen the customer water hose. This will make the thermos take in air as the water comes out.

Step 5: Once all the water has come out, we can disassemble the electric water heater.

Now you can remove it from the wall. On the contrary, if you have only emptied it for conservation, the task is ready.

We remind you that there is a possibility that the thermos is emptied in the opposite direction. That is to say, that the water leaves through the inlet tube, so that the air will enter through the faucets. For this reason we recommend that before starting with the emptying you have several buckets on hand because if this happens to you.
